Changing the Tag Type

Nitro PDF Pro for Windows

When making a PDF accessible, ensure that: 

  • Headings use the correct heading levels  
  • Tables include proper header cells  
  • All other elements use appropriate tag types  

If an incorrect tag type was assigned during automatic or manual tagging, it can be updated using the Tag Properties panel. After updating the tag type, verify that all associated properties remain accurate. 

To change the tag type 

  1. Open the PDF in Nitro PDF Pro 
  2. In the left sidebar, select the Tags icon to view the document structure 
  3. Right-click the tag you want to modify and select Show Properties 
  4. The Tag Properties panel opens 
  5. In the Tag Type list, select the required tag type 
  6. The tag type is updated for the selected tag and its associated content node 
    Note: Updating the tag type of a content (leaf) node also updates the parent tag type. 
  7. Review the tag and content properties to ensure no required information was lost.  
  8. Save the document:  
    • Select Save in the top bar, or  
    • Press Ctrl+S
