Use Measurement Tools

Nitro PDF Pro for Windows


Use the Measure tool to calculate distance, area, or perimeter based on a defined scale.

Some PDF files include an embedded scale. If a scale is present, the Measure tool uses it automatically.

Calibrate the Measure tool

If the PDF file does not include a scale, calibrate the document before you measure.

    1. On the Review tab, in the Review Tools group, click the arrow under Measure
    2. Select Calibrate
    3. Click the page to set the start point
    4. Click again to set the end point
    5. In the Calibration dialog box:
      1. Enter the measurement value
      2. Select a unit
    6. Optional: Select Apply to all pages
    7. Click OK

    Measure distance

      1. On the Review tab, click the arrow under Measure, then select Distance
      2. Click the page to set the start point
      3. Click to set the end point
      4. Move the pointer to position the measurement, then click to finish

    Measure area

      1. On the Review tab, click the arrow under Measure, then select Area
      2. Click to set the start point
      3. Click to add points along the boundary
      4. Right-click, then select Complete

    Measure perimeter

      1. On the Review tab, click the arrow under Measure, then select Perimeter
      2. Click to set the start point
      3. Click to add points along the path
      4. Right-click, then select Complete

    Note: The start and end points do not need to connect.

    View or edit a measurement

      • Double-click the measurement to open the annotation
      • Edit the value or add comments as required

    Set Measure tool preferences

      1. On the File menu, click Settings
      2. Select the Measure category
      3. Configure the following options:
        1. Calibration: Disable the calibration prompt
        2. Snapping: Define how the pointer snaps to points and paths
      4. Click Apply, then click OK
