Seneca is a nonprofit behavioral and mental health organization headquartered in the San Francisco Bay area. Dedicated to supporting underrepresented children and families, the organization delivers community and school-based services that reframe what’s possible for youth.  

With staff spread across California and Washington, many Seneca employees rely on PDF tools for their everyday tasks, such as creating, editing, and sharing documents. For years, the organization used the same PDF solution with no issues.  

But in mid-2024, with license renewals on the horizon, Seneca’s reseller recommended exploring alternatives. Joseph Derr, VP of IT at Seneca, explains: “The reseller rep looked at our usage data and said, with the volume we were doing, we could make significant savings by moving to another vendor in the space. That’s when we first started seriously considering switching to Nitro.”  

The solution

Once Seneca chose Nitro, things moved fast. Joseph and his team partnered with Nitro to run a two- to three-week proof-of-concept, inviting high-volume users to test Nitro and evaluate how it compared to their previous adobe solution.  

The feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Nitro proposed a contract structure that would allow Seneca to deploy and use the solution for approximately four months before their other contract expired, at no additional cost. This gave the IT team a welcome opportunity to implement and optimize Nitro without unnecessary pressure or risk.  

To ensure a smooth transition, Nitro gave Seneca access to a dedicated learning microsite and hosted regular training sessions to address specific use cases and frequently asked questions. 

“In the past, we’ve onboarded solutions where the clock starts ticking immediately and it puts our technical teams under significant pressure to make things work,” said Derr. “Nitro’s flexibility and support helped reduce that challenge significantly and has meant we’ve had a strong partnership right from the beginning.”
