Use Nitro MCP with Claude

Nitro MCP connects Claude Desktop to Nitro’s Intelligent Document Processing (IDP). It lets you run PDF and document workflows by using simple prompts. 

With Nitro MCP, you can convert, merge, compress, split, redact, extract data, and protect documents without leaving Claude. 

Note: Nitro MCP is available in Early Access for active Nitro customers. New users can start a free trial to use Nitro MCP. 

Requirements 

Make sure that you have: 

• An active Nitro account or a Nitro free trial  

• Claude Desktop installed  

• A Claude account  

• Access to the files on your local device  

Note: Nitro MCP only supports Claude Desktop in this release. It does not support other AI assistants. 

Get started (existing Nitro customers) 

1. Go to the Nitro MCP landing page

2. Select Download now

3. Download and run the installer 

   Note: Make sure you are signed in to your Claude account when the installer opens 

4. In Claude, ask to use Nitro MCP for a document task 

   Enter a prompt such as: ‘Convert the Word documents in my Downloads folder to PDF and compress it.’ 

5. When prompted, sign in with your Nitro account 

6. After authentication, Claude can use Nitro MCP to run supported document action 

7. Specify the file or folder and describe the outcome 
   
   Enter a prompt such as: ‘Merge the three contracts in my Downloads folder into one PDF.’ 
   
   

Get started (new Nitro users) 

1. Go to the Nitro MCP landing page 
2. Select Start free trial 
3. Create a Nitro account 
4. Return to the Nitro MCP landing page 
5. Select Download now 
6. Download and run the installer 
   
   Note: Make sure you are signed in to your Claude account when the installer opens  
7. In Claude, enter a prompt to use Nitro MCP 
   
   Enter a prompt such as: ‘Extract all tables from this report and save them as an Excel file.’ 
8. When prompted, sign in with your Nitro account 
9. After authentication, Claude can run supported document actions 

Use Nitro MCP in Claude 

After you install and authenticate Nitro MCP, describe the task in a prompt. 

For best results, include: 

• File or folder location  

• Action to perform  

• Output format  

• Specific instructions (for example, page range, compression level, or redaction rules)  

Enter a prompt such as: 

‘Convert the Word document in my Downloads folder to PDF and compress it with medium compression.’ 

‘Extract all tables from the annual report PDF and save them as an Excel file.’ 

‘Merge the contracts in this folder in alphabetical order, then compress the PDF for email.’ 

‘Find PII in this PDF, redact it, and save a flattened copy.’ 

Notes and limitations 

• Nitro MCP Early Access is available to active Nitro customers and Nitro free trial users. 

• Nitro MCP is free to use during Early Access, subject to fair use. 

• Files are processed through Nitro’s document services. Files are not stored by Nitro beyond processing and are deleted after processing is complete. 

• Nitro MCP does not expose the full contents of your documents to the AI model for Nitro-executed document operations. Nitro handles the document processing and returns the result. 

• At launch, Nitro MCP is available as a direct download from Nitro. A Claude Extension Store listing is planned for a later date. 

• Nitro MCP does not currently support ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Gemini, or other AI assistant platforms.
