PandaDoc vs. DocuSign: Choosing the Right eSignature Solution Based on Your Business Needs

It’s critical for today’s businesses to implement an electronic signature (eSignature) solution that enables you to sign and send professional-looking digital documents. But with all the options out there, it’s hard to know which eSignature tool is right for your business.

To help, we evaluated two popular options—PandaDoc and DocuSign—based on these criteria:

  • Pricing and flexibility
  • Scalability
  • Features and functionality
  • Security
  • Customer support and success
  • Integrations
  • User satisfaction and reviews

Introducing DocuSign

DocuSign was founded in 2003 as one of the first eSignature solutions to hit the market. Since then, they’ve pioneered the growth of electronic signatures, serving more than a million customers and hundreds of millions of users in over 180 countries.

Today, the product also includes additional features beyond just sending and signing documents, a powerful API and more than 350 native integrations with other business tools.

Introducing PandaDoc

PandaDoc’s solution includes all-in-one document creation and eSignature features. The company’s goal is to streamline and automate the entire document process from creation to approval to eSignature.

Since the company’s founding in 2011, they’ve built out the eSignature tool and developed nearly 40 integrations with other popular apps. Today, PandaDoc serves more than 23,000 customers. Deloitte ranked them among the fastest growing companies in North America in 2019 and the company officially became a unicorn in 2021.

Winner: DocuSign

Alternative: Nitro Sign provides unlimited eSignature, robust enterprise grade features, and enterprise support - Take a look at our pricing page.

While PandaDoc offers a free plan that includes basic eSignature features, it’s pretty limited—you’ll need a paid plan to get the most out of the tool.

On the paid side, DocuSign’s Business Pro plan offers a lower monthly cost than PandaDoc’s Business plan.

DocuSign pricing

Here’s the pricing breakdown for DocuSign:

And for PandaDoc:

Price flexibility

Winner: PandaDoc

Alternative: Nitro Sign does not use envelope or transaction models to limit usage and deployment across your organization, we simply provide unlimited eSignatures across all our plans.

While DocuSign offers generally lower pricing, PandaDoc’s pricing structure is actually more flexible, including unlimited eSigning and signature requests with every plan.

DocuSign’s plans are more limiting: The Personal plan includes five sent envelopes per month and the Standard and Business Pro plans include 100 envelopes per user per year.

Each envelope can include however many documents and signature placements you need, so DocuSign’s is a great model for users who send documents in bulk or for many signatures at once. But if you go over the envelope limit on your plan, you’ll incur additional costs (on top of your monthly plan) to buy more. For that reason, the DocuSign model isn’t great for a steady or irregular flow of documents.

PandaDoc vs DocuSign Ratings

Have a look at what PandaDoc customers are saying:

"Once your templates are set-up Pandadoc really speeds up the contracting process, and as an added bonus integrates well with CRM systems like Hubspot."

(source: Gartner)

"I love how easy it is to create templates and interact with the platform. Anytime I get stuck, the support that's available is awesome. I've never waited more than a few minutes to get the answer and support I need via Live Chat. It's a tool I recommend and implement for a lot of my clients. Given how easy it is to use, it's just as easy to teach and train my clients to use it on their own."

(source: G2)

And here’s what DocuSign users have to say:

"DocuSign helps us feel secure knowing that our contracts are stored on a secured platform. The interface on the recipient's end is intuitive, and contracts are generally quick and easy to complete. We appreciate having the ability to check the status of an application and, once complete, always have access to the completed contract and supplementary documents."

(source: G2)

"End user feedback has been very positive and the productivity improvements we have achieved have been amazing. Signers found it so easy to use we did not need to do any training and have received positive feedback on the overall experience. For senders they were able to intuitively pick up the basics and for more complex needs were able to leverage the extensive support material and training to help them get up and running."
