The global pandemic initiated a rapid shift to remote work, requiring companies of all shapes and sizes to harness digital workflows and collaboration solutions to continue operating. The transition to digital workflows has been swift and, for companies finding ways to navigate these changes, it is this way of working which is creating new possibilities.
If more people are working with digital documents while away from the office, then why aren’t common actions—like sending a document for signature—at an all-time high? We examined data in Nitro Analytics to see how Nitro users around the world may have adjusted the way they work—and what we found was, well, interesting.
Future of Work: Part 1
With insights from Nitro Analytics, we have observed four global trends taking shape in this new era of digital document workflows:
Printing has declined massively and rapidly. Paper-based processes are slower, more costly, have inherent security liabilities, and often require people to work in the same location.
Migration from paper to digital workflows has been expedited. With global work-from-home orders in place and no access to office printers or scanners, it’s digitized document workflows or no workflows.
Electronic signing has accelerated—and are being returned 43% more quickly. It could be that our proximity to our computers or smartphones while working at home is making up for a faster response time.
Work has spread outside of normal business hours. Now, nearly 20% of work occurs outside of the hours of 6:00am to 6:00pm (compared to just 10% in 2019).
Coming soon in Part 2 of the report, we will be sharing deeper insights from a global survey of knowledge workers on their document workflows, challenges, and the impact on their productivity while working from home due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Ultimately, IT and business leaders need to take a stronger role in driving more efficient communication, removing operational roadblocks, and empowering employees with the necessary tools and resources to improve knowledge worker productivity—especially to support a remote workforce.
